Dal Khichdi

There are many ways of preparing Moong dal Khichdi, this is the simple Dal Khichdi recipe which I prepare for my kid. I introduced Dal Khichadi to my son when he was 10 months old. It is very healthy since its made of Rice and Moong dal (split and dehusked green gram) and toor dal (pigeon peas split). Moong dal is easy to digest, a good source of protein and a dietary fiber hence it is also given for the patients. This recipe I learned from my sister. She has 2 kids and used to prepare dal khichdi for them when they were small.
If you are bored of the usual dal rice routine you can try this I am sure will like this. We will learn below the steps for preparing this recipe.

pinch of

To temper:
Ghee

Mustard seeds
½ tea spoon
Cumin seeds

Procedure:
1. Wash rice and the cereals thoroughly in water, you can also keep rice for soaking for 10-15 mins before cooking.
2. Keep pressure cooker on a medium flame and add ghee to it. When the ghee is heated and melted add the items in the section given 'to temper' and saute for 4-5 seconds.
3. Add chopped garlic, ginger, green chilly, asafoetida and allow the garlic get fried and turn brown,it will take around 2 mins.
4. Then add the rice, moong dal and toor dal, coriander leaves Mix well. Wait for 2-3 mins until the rice and cereals get  mixed well.
5. Add water, salt and mix well. Close the pressure cooker and let it get cooked until you hear 3 vissels. Then you can turn off the stove.
6. This Khichdi can be served with ghee and pickle.

Notes :
  • The more ghee you add the more smoother and tastier the rice becomes, but sometimes the ghee might come out if you have added more water.
  • In case you want to get the khichdi in more liquid form then add little more than 2 and half glass of water and allow the rice to get cooked on low flame.
  • I usually add less green chilly prepare this without the green chilly as I would be giving it for my son, You can add more if you want.
